The instructing performed shall be both exciting and satisfying, as you and/or your son or daughter, embrace karate-do– "the way of karate". Inside our Dojo, instruction is provided in the more traditional art of Okinawa Meibukan Goju-ryu karate-do, which is viewed as a way of life, and also a means of self-defense. The Okotoks Meibukan Goju-Ryu Martial arts Dojo (karate school) is honored to open its doors in the gorgeous setting of Okotoks, AB, situated approximately 15 minutes south of Calgary. We are an instructive institution committed to instructing time honored Okinawa Meibukan Goju-Ryu Karate-do. This "hard" (go) and "soft" (ju) variety of karate underscores the importance of personal advancement and self-defense elements of martial arts, as opposed to the sports styles. We integrate elements of classic martial wisdom in a non-competitive, non-sport environment. Goju-Ryu is formally recognized as one of the initial 3 varieties of karate and was the very first style to become formally named. Here at our Dojo you will also train in self-defense methods and kobudo (weapons). Found within this technique of karate are factors of Judo, Ju-Jitsu and Kung Fu. Circular blocking procedures, powerful strikes and kicks, and the application of joint locks, arm bars and throwing techniques characterize this martial art. In addition we focus on proper breathing strategies to purify, strengthen and tap into our internal health. Students develop mental self-control, assurance and a "Yes, I can do it!" perspective.
